The Lost Pyramids

In the last moments of daylight, the Sun falls below a nearby pyramid casting a long shadow onto the red desert sand. I’m standing in a pyramid field that stretches as far as I can see. You might imagine I’m at Giza, but this isn’t Egypt. This is Sudan and these are Nubian pyramids built 2,500 years after their mighty cousins to the North. Located between the 5th & 6th cataracts of the Nile, Meroë hosts the largest collection of pyramids South of Egypt. This incredible place is well off the beaten path and well worth a visit.  http://www.christophermichel.com/Travel/Lost-in-Time-Ancient-Nubia/
