One of the most powerful paintings I’ve ever seen is “Christina’s World,” a true moment where Andy Wyeth sees Anna Christina Olson crawling across a field. Anna suffered from a debilitating muscular disorder, which made walking impossible. Anna loved the painting and once said, “Andy put me where he knew I wanted to be. Now that I can’t be there anymore, all I do is think of that picture and I’m there.” She died in 1968. As a photographer, I occasionally see scenes that remind me of Andy and Christina. Though no image I’ve made has ever come close to the authentic emotion of this incredible moment in time.
